watsonx Orchestrate is IBM's platform for building AI agents that automate multi-step business workflows across enterprise applications. Like watsonx Assistant, it is a general-purpose product rather than something built specifically for IBM i.
Where it could apply to an IBM i shop
An IBM i shop with processes that span IBM i and other systems, for example a workflow that touches an IBM i order-entry application alongside a cloud CRM or ERP system, could evaluate watsonx Orchestrate as an automation layer connecting those systems. As with watsonx Assistant, reaching IBM i or Db2 for i data specifically requires custom integration work rather than a prebuilt IBM i connector.
Evaluate watsonx Orchestrate as a general enterprise automation platform first, and scope any IBM i-specific integration work as its own project before assuming out-of-the-box support.
