InstructLab
An open source project from IBM Research and Red Hat that lets a subject matter expert add knowledge to a model without being a data scientist.
InstructLab launched in May 2024 and uses the LAB method, short for Large-scale Alignment for chatBots, developed at IBM Research. A person who knows the subject contributes knowledge and skills through a structured folder arrangement called a taxonomy. InstructLab then generates a large set of synthetic training examples from that small human-written set and tunes a model on the result. It ships inside Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI alongside IBM Granite models, and supports Spanish, German, French, and Italian with Japanese, Hindi, and Korean noted as planned.
